Description: Galantamine hydrobromide is a plant alkaloid that can be found in some snowdrops and daffodils. It modulates nicotinergic acetylcholine receptors and inhibits acetylcholinesterase. It can therefore be used as an antidote in acetylcholinesterase blocking agents (e.g., organophosphates, sarin, and tabun). It also has a strong analgesic, vagoton (parasympathomimetic), cardioprotective and anti-inflammatory. Dementia, especially Alzheimer's disease, is treated.
